Ex-gratia to thunderstorm victims in Kokrajhar

KOKRAJHAR, May 12: The Kokrajhar district administration has declared ex-gratia of Rs. 10,000 each to the kin of the thunderstorm victims in the district.

Thaneswar Malakar, Deputy Commissioner of Kokrajhar, visited the thunderstorm-affected areas at Simbargaon and Karigaon and met the injured persons at Rup th Brahma Civil Hospital recently to take stock of the situation. Two persons, including a woman, were killed when lightning struck them. Besides, 14 others were injured due to lightning at different places in Kokrajhar on the evening of May 8.

Telap Boro (40) of Simbargaon died on the spot while her husband who was sitting beside her when the lightning struck was seriously injured.

In a separate incident, Hem rzary (41) died and seven others were seriously injured at Karigaon, Bauraguri relief camp in the district. Two more women at Oxiguri village in Chirang district were seriously injured when they were struck by lightning. The injured were admitted to the Kokrajhar Civil Hospital.
