ITANAGAR: In a shocking incident on Sunday night, the residence of former MLA from 16th Yachuli constituency Likha Saaya was damaged and several furniture were torched.

Meanwhile, the brother of the former MLA has filed an FIR at Nirjuli police station. As informed by the capital SP, there was a meeting of about 3,000 supporters called by Likha Saaya at his residence in Nirjuli when some of the supporters became angry on his decision not to contest in the ensuing Assembly election. Some among them set afire many chairs at his premises and also pelted stones and broke window glasses.

The SP said, “Later a few of his protesters also entered the house with a machete in search of Likha Saaya and damaged some property there. The Nirjuli Police rushed in and controlled the situation from escalating while fire tenders doused the fire.

“In this connection, a case has been registered at Nirjuli PS and the main accused has been identified and efforts are on to arrest them.” Saaya was elected unopposed from the Yachuli constituency seat in the State Assembly elections in 2014. He contested as a People’s Party of Arunachal candidate from the Yachuli seat but later joined the BJP.
