Hamren, April 22: As part of the ‘Year of Disabled Soldiers’, an Ex- Servicemen Rally was organized  at Diphu by Red Horns Division on Sunday at the Karbi Cultural Society Stadium, Taralangso, Diphu. The aim of the rally was to integrate the ex-servicemen in nation building and to felicitate disabled soldiers, Veer Naris and the veterans for their selfless service.

 This year is being celebrated as the ‘Year of Disabled Soldiers’. Keeping up with this theme, all the disabled soldiers in the area were felicitated during the rally.  The function was attended by three disabled soldiers, six Veer Naris, 389 veterans, 213 women and 184 children from all across East Karbi Anglong, West Karbi Anglong, Hojai, Nagaon and Morigaon districts. The event was attended by Brigade Commander, Chindits Brigade and Deputy Commissioner of East Karbi Anglong, along with various civil and military dignitaries.

 The dignitaries addressed the rally and informed the veterans regarding various ongoing and planned initiatives for ex-servicemen. The event included Pipe Band display, folk dance by Karbi Cultural Society and various stalls, including various national and local bank counters, CSD counter, welfare schemes counter and Army Recruitment Office counter, were put up for the convenience of the ex-servicemen.

 An ECHS and medical camp was also organized where specialist doctors from the Indian Army and Diphu Civil Hospital rendered their service. Along with specialized medical facilities, free medicines were also provided to the veterans and their families.
