Excise Department Steps up Efforts Against Illicit Liquor in Mangaldai

MANGALDAI: The Excise branch under the office of the Deputy Commissioner of Darrang has stepped up action against illicit country liquor in various places of the district. In a joint excise raid carried out on Wednesday at Gerimeri, Baghpori, Prafulla Nagar, Mowamari and Areng under Mangaldoi circle and Bhuktabari, Lothapara and Bijulibari under Sipajhar circle, excise officers seized and destroyed about 1,000 litres of fermented wash and 200 litres of illicit liquor. Two persons were also arrested along with about 100 litres of illicit liquor.

Deputy Superintendent of Excise, Sukla Goswami, immediately after taking over as the officiating Superintendent of Excise, has geared up the department and as per instruction of Deputy Commissioner Ashok Kumar Barman, intensified the operation against illicit country liquor, illegal sale of IMFL in paan shops and other narcotic substances and drugs in the district. On the other hand, Additional Deputy Commissioner (Excise) Pankaj Chakravarty has also supervised and monitored the functioning of the excise staff and made it compulsory to wear official uniform for all ranks of the excise department here.
