Excise raids in Sivasagar

SIVASAGAR, April 21:  Following directions issued by Sivasagar Deputy Commissioner, the Excise Department of the district conducted raids at various places under Amguri Revenue Circle on Friday and seized a huge quantum of liquor. The places where the raids were conducted are Phulpanichiga and Khonamukh from where 11,525 litres of country made liquor and beer were seized and 7 persons were arrested in this connection. The raids were conducted under leadership of Excise Inspector Asutosh Baruah.

 On the other hand, the district Excise Department, with the help of Sivasagar Police, conducted a sudden operation against illegal liquor sellers in Hanhchara, Cherekapara, Akhoiphutia and Betbari on Friday night and busted several illegal liquor shops.

The excise sleuths also nabbed five persons and recovered about 630 litres of country spirit and five cartons of CMFL during the operation. Three cases have been registered against the illegal liquor sellers under Assam Excise Act in Sivasagar PS, sources said.
