Executive Member of Public Health Engineering of Basic Training Centre Launches Swachh Survekshan Grameen in Kokrajhar, Assam

KOKRAJHAR, July 27: Along with the rest of the country, the Swachh Survekshan Grameen (SBM-G) was launched formally at the Basic Training Centre auditorium hall in Kokrajhar district on Friday. The Executive Member of Public Health Engineering of Basic Training Centre, Lwmsrao Daimary formally launched the project in presence of BTC EM of Urban and Country Planning and Town and Country Planning Doneswar Goyary and other senior officials of the department.

Talking to reporters, the EM of PHE, Lwmsrao Daimary said that Swachh Survekshan Grameen was the survey which would take place from August 1 to August 30 to provide national ranking of all 698 districts of the country that comprise of 6,980 villages across the nation on the basis of quantitative as well as qualitative sanitation parameters. He said the ranking would be based on a comprehensive set of parameters, including data from the SBM (G) by district-level surveys of public places like schools, anganwadi centres, public health centres, haat/bazaar, panchayat or VCDCs and citizens’ perception of swachhata and their recommendations for improvement of the programme.

Daimary said under the sanitation programme across the nation, his department had completed the public toiletry programme in Chirang and Baksa district and construction of sanitation in Kokrajhar and Udalguri was going on in full swing. Replying to queries, Daimary said the department concerned had been trying to build a clean environment in every town and bazaar in the council area and now the department was trying to make the villages clean. He also called upon people to pursue the problems related to sanitation and bring awareness among all to keep swachhata in their mind.

The Director of PHE, Deepak Dutta said an independent agency had been hired by the Ministry of Drinking Water and Sanitation (MDWS), Government of India, which would visit different villages throughout the country to assess the survey of public places and obtain citizens’ feedback and upload the same in the ministry website and on the basis of their markings, the district would be awarded on October 2 during the celebration of Gandhi Jayanti.
