Exhibition on Sepoy Mutiny held in Guwahati school
Guwahati, May 12: The South Point School, Guwahati in association with tiol Council for Historical Research organized an exhibition of copies of paintings of scenes, portraits and letters from the Revolt of 1857, better known as ‘The Sepoy Mutiny’ on May 10 and 11 in the school premises, a press release said.
The exhibition was iugurated by Dr Paromita Das, Head of the department of History, Gauhati University with the lighting of the ceremonial lamp followed by the rendering of a patriotic song by the school choir.
Principal K. Chanda explained the objective of the exhibition, while a student Sourin delivered a discourse on the cause and effect of the Revolt. Dr Das, Dr Mousumi Dutta Pathak, Associate Professor, History, Arya Vidyapeeth College and Uttam Bathari, Deputy Director, ICHR, in their speeches welcomed the initiative of the school and highlighted the importance of such exhibitions in instilling the temper of historical research among students. The faculty and students of city based schools visiting the exhibition.
