'Exploitation' of workers of TEs under Assam Tea Company decried

TINSUKIA, June 12: More than 100 activists of Assam Tea Tribe Student's Association (ATTSA) Tinsukia district committee resorted to sit-in in front of Deputy Commissioner's office Tinsukia on Monday in protest against alleged exploitation of the workers of Rangagora, Dinjan and Digholtarang Tea Estates by the magement of Assam Tea Company on the plea of fincial loss.

Memorandum submitted to the Chief Minister of Assam through the Deputy Commissioner, Tinsukia stated that the magement of the three TEs under Assam Tea Company created a fear psychosis among the workers and employees after magement denied their salary and wages, besides not depositing PF during the past 15 months. The memorandum demanded immediate regularization of salary, ration and health services.

On the pretext of poor production of green leaf, the magement resorted to retrenchment of temporary workers after failing to supply regular chemicals in the gardens, the memorandum said, which was issued jointly by Birendra Tanti and Anuj Tanti, president and secretary ATTSA, Tinsukia district committee.
