Explosives seized in Shillong

SHILLONG, Sept 13: Arms, ammunitions and explosives were recovered on Tuesday morning from the outskirts of the city.

Police informed that these were hidden inside a suitcase and a bag near a stream at Umsohlang, Nongksehrim in Upper Shillong.  

According to police, the suitcase which was first sighted by a group of four boys who went for fishing in the stream immediately informed the headman of the area.

The village headman subsequently informed the police.

According to the Superintendent of Police (City), Vivek Syiem, on thorough search of the area, a VIP suitcase and a school bag which was stashed in a hole near the bank of the stream were recovered. A shot gun, 135 LED pellets, seven live cartridges, 90 electric detotors, 85 gelatin sticks, three ball pens, a water bottle and a small bag were recovered.

According to Syiem a case under arms Act and explosive Act have been registered at the Lumdiengjri Police Station.
