Facebook group brings joy to old-age home inmates

GUWAHATI, APRIL 9: All the inmates of Mother Old Age Home in Jyoti gar of Guwahati, on Saturday forgot all their pains and worries for a while as a group of members of Facebook page ‘Not Just Food’ visited them as part Rongali Bihu festivity.

The inmates of the old-age home, of which five are senior male members and 40 are senior women, were offered the Bihuwan and sweet Assamese traditiol delicacies, besides hot water bags and sweets. On receiving the Rongali Bihu greetings not from their sons or daughters, but from cheerful unknown housewives, the inmates failed to control their emotion and tears were seen trickling down on their cheeks as the members of the group touched their feet and hugged them with love. The members of the group also entertained the senior citizens with Bihu songs and Bihu dance. Even a section of the inmates of the old-age home, despite their age and physical condition joined in dancing and singing with a smile, thereby bringing a festive atmosphere in the complex.

The members of the group also offered an amount to the magement for the smooth maintence of the home. Priyakshi Das of the group took the initiative in organizing the day-long programme for the inmates of the old-age home. The group ‘Not Just Food’ is a group formed on Facebook by a number of housewives interested in cooking, tailoring and interior decoration who are planning to extend assistance to the inmates of the orphages in the city within a short period.
