TANGLA, April 25: The fake note racket seems to be active in the State. Udalguri police busted a major fake currency note printing racket at Azara in Guwahati and arrested five persons at about 11 pm on Monday. The gang members were apprehended with a Mahindra Scorpio vehicle. The persons have been identified as Krishna Sonar (36) of Tinsukia, Muzibur Rahman (35) of Azara under Kamrup, Pulin Dutta (55) of Hatigaon under Kamrup, Aarjul Ali (23) of Azara and Firoz Ali of Boko under Kamrup. As per revelations of the accused, special pigments were applied in A4 size papers to produce fake notes, and then they circulated the fake notes among people.

 Police are looking into various angles. The five arrested persons have been booked vide Udalguri Police Station case no. 90/18 under IPC sections 489B/489D/489C/420. Police sources revealed that 27 original notes of Rs 500 denomination were recovered from their possession worth face value of Rs.13,500.  The gang members had struck a deal with a person of providing fake Indian currency notes valued at Rs 1 crore in exchange of original currency notes of Rs.25 lakh when the police got the tip-off and arrested them.
