SIVASAGAR, Feb 21: For the people living in wjan gaon near Darikapar, the glass waste dumped by a glass industry is not just useating, but has also made their life difficult.
The paddy field at wjan Gaon in Sivasagar, which was once used for agriculture, has now turned into a waste-dumping site. The matter has also been neglected by the authorities concerned, due to which it has become highly polluted. Besides, untreated waste from factories in industrial area located at Darikapar has polluted the paddy field.
A farmer, Nitul Mech of Darikapar wjan Gaon said, “Since the past few years, I have stopped cultivating in the field due to the pollution caused by the glass wastage dumped in the field.” He alleged that waste of Mahabir Glass Industry was being continuously dumped into his field. Despite repeated appeals made to the owner of Mahabir Glass Industry not to dump waste into his field, no positive response has been received, alleged Mech. “This compelled me to approach Paribesh Suraksha Samiti, a leading NGO which works for protection of ture to deal with matter.”
Meanwhile, Rupraj Baruah, president of Paribesh Suraksha Samiti, Sivasagar district committee, filed an RTI with the DICC, Sivasagar in connection with the industry campus located at Darikapar.
