Farmers for probe into huge losses of ginger in Ri-Bhoi district

SHILLONG, Dec 3: The Eastern Ri Bhoi Farmer Union (ERBFU) has requested the District Horticulture Officer Ri Bhoi District Nongpoh, to examine the huge losses incurred by farmers cultivating ginger in different parts of Ri Bhoi District. The president of ERBFU, DS Rynghang in a memorandum submitted to the Horticulture Officer Ri Bhoi District informed that the Union has acquired information that many farmers in Ri Bhoi are facing difficulty because their ginger would get spoiled especially in Barapani, Umroi, Kyrdem, Mawpun, Raid Iapngar Mawbsein and Tyrso- Umtyngngan. “We demand that the Horticulture Officer should conduct an inquiry into the matter and send the fil report concerning the damaged ginger to the Union,” Rynghang said. The Union leader further urged the state government to provide assistance to those farmers who have incurred losses from ginger cultivation. Meanwhile, the District Horticulture Officer Ri Bhoi District has assured the Union members that the matter will up seriously by conducting an inquiry to find out the root cause for the ginger to get damaged.
