Fast track probe into golf club arson

Shillong, April 7: The Shillong City Police are on a fast track mode to find out the culprits involved in the twin cases of arson at the Shillong Golf Club premises.

There were two cases of arson at the heritage Shillong Golf Club since Saturday. The first attack was on the intervening night of Saturday and Sunday.

Even before the police could complete the investigation into the arson at the stockyard located adjacent to the nearly 100-years-old British type architectural house, the miscreants burnt the breakfast cum rest  house located in the 10th Hole of the Shillong Golf Course on Sunday night.

The fire that engulfed the stockyard is said to have damaged properties amounting to around Rs one crore and fifty lakhs. Superintendent of Police (City) Vivek Syiem told The Sentinel, “The twin incidents are suspected to be a case of foul play.”

“We are on a fast track mode to identify the miscreants involved in the crime,” stated Syiem, besides informing that one of the angles is to look into the interl developments within the club.

The case is being handled by the Officer-in-Charge of Pastuer Hills Police Station S K Singh and he has been asked to dig deep into the case that amounts to attacking properties of the State which are prestigious and historical assets.

Golfers are already in a state of disbelief and shock following the incidents of arson.

“Those involved in this arson are simply trying to derail the club’s endevaour to improve the logistics that can make our Shillong Golf Course an intertiol destition,” stated the golfers.
