Father seeks impartial inquiry into son’s death

TANGLA, March 2: Police is yet to resolve the mysterious death of Chidon Basumatari (14), a meritorious  Class VIII hostel boarder  in Harisinga Diamond English School of Udalguri on November 8, 2016,  whose  body  was found hanging with a gamosa from the window. It continues to be a mystery with police finding no clue or making no arrest in the case.

The school authorities had alleged it to be a case of suicide and lodged an FIR. However, the deceased’s  father Bapan Basumatari, an inhabitant of Khoirabari of Udalguri district, alleged that his son was a victim of cold-blooded murder and lodged an FIR at Harisinga PS the same day. Even though police had registered an FIR under IPC 302 and four months have passed, the police have not found any substantial evidence neither anyone has been arrested in the case till date. The theory of suicide being propagated by school authorities is fictiol rrative, alleged the deceased’s father.

The father of the deceased had also sought the intervention of the Superintendent of Police of Udalguri on November 22, 2016 for inquiry into the mysterious death, but to no prevail.

The grief-stricken father has knocked the doors of Gauhati HC for an impartial inquiry into the matter and punishment of guilty. The father also wrote to the Prime Minister’s Office on February 25, 2017 for proper inquiry into the death of his son. The PMO, accepting the application, has registered it vide PMO’ PG/E/2017/0113275 and mailed a letter.

The parents informed that their kin had returned to the hostel on November 7 after celebrating his birthday on November 3 at his home in Khoirabari. Family members informed that he was happy and in sound health.

“I have several doubts in the theory being propagated by the hostel authorities. I want a proper inquiry into the alleged suicide of my son,” the father said.
