Festival of Manipuri Dance and Music to promote cultural heritage of North East

SIVASAGAR: With a view to focus on preservation and promotion of the cultural heritage of the Northeast, the two-day Festival of Manipuri Dance & Music (FMDM) will be held in Sivasagar from February 8.

The festival will be held under the aegis of Jawaharlal Nehru Manipur Dance Academy, Imphal, a constituent unit of Sangeet Natak Akademi, New Delhi, in collaboration with Sibsagar Natya Samaj at Sivasagar Natya Mandir.

The curtain raiser of FMDM will kick-off with Kuranga Nayani, a presentation of dance drama, scripted by Debjani Chaliha on February 8, while the final presentation of dance drama Radha Sati, scripted by Ksh. Thouranishabi Devi, will be staged on February 9.

Saurav Chaliha, Executive Member and chief co-ordinator of Sibsagar Natya Samaj, said that the festival experience would not only give the performers a platform to share their art form but also give the audiences an opportunity to interact and see the performances of other art traditions.
