Festive fever continues to grip Shillong

SHILLONG, Dec 26: With Christmas celebrated on December 25, citizens of the city are still in their festive mood with Churches readying themselves for a community feast in the coming days.

After arranging services on Christmas Eve and on Christmas day, Churches of different denomitions following the tradition of sharing cooked food together.

The city is also gearing up for New Year festivities with various programmes lined up to bid good bye to 2015 and welcome the New Year.

The festivities does not end there with Government offices to officially reopen on January 4, residents are spending their time with families and friends.

“On Christmas Day I visited my in-laws and I gifted my father-in-law a shirt and a pant piece. We ate Christmas cake and also ate dinner there,” Mary Lyngdoh said.

It may be mentioned that Shillong is an illumited city with Churches, streets, government buildings and houses adorning lights.    Tourists too are thronging the city to soak into the festive spirit of the locals. Hotels in the city as well as Sohra (Cherrapunjee) are already booked. A tourist from Bangalore who wanted to stay in Sohra was disappointed since he could not find an accommodation there.

On Saturday afternoon, tourists mostly from West Bengal and Assam thronged the Cathedral of Mary Help of Christians in the city.
