Film director Johns no more

GUWAHATI, Feb 5: Noted film director Johns Mahalia passed away in a Guwahati hospital today. He was 69. Born on November 8, 1946 at Diplonga village in Sootea, he did his schooling in Sootea, graduation from Arya Vidyapeeth College in Guwahati and diploma on film direction from Pune Film and TV Institution in 1971. Assamese films Duronir Rong, Bohagor Duporia and a Bodo film were some of his creations. He too directed a few TV serials.    He also worked as a deputy director and the director in Mumbai and New Delhi in Government of India’s Film Division. He had been suffering from kidney problems for a long time. He leaves behind his wife, sons and daughters. A pall of gloom descended in the Assamese film industry in his death.
