Film North East 2016 invites films from Meghalaya

SHILLONG, Jan 22: The Festival Director of Film North East 2016, which is schedule to kick start in Aruchal Pradesh from 17th – 20th February 2016 at Annexe Lawns, Indira Gandhi Park, Itagar has urged budding filmmakers from Meghalaya to send their films to the Secretariat of Film 2016, in order to promote the films in the festival. Filmmakers from Meghalaya can send their films in the open category slot which include short films (under 5 mins) and documentary films on contemporary issues facing the region (20-30 mins). The last date for submission of entries in open categories is January 30 while the official nomitions would be taken till February 5. “Young filmmakers can send their films to us and we can help in trying to sell their films in the festival and at the end of the festival we will send back all the proceeds to them,” Moji Riba Director of Film North East 2016 told newsmen here on Friday. He said there would be 8 feature films from the Northeastern States, documentaries from each State, short film competition and debut feature films of a director or producer before January 2013 (2 films from each State).  “We will be having a session on ‘Pitching Films and Accessing Funding’ and through this we want to share with filmmakers from the North East from where they can avail the funds,” he said.  Som Chombay, Secretary Information and Public Relations (IPR) government of Aruchal Pradesh said, “The government of Aruchal has been conducting the Aruchal Film Festival for the past 3 years and since there is no festival for film industries in the North East which encompasses the 8 States so we wanted to upgrade from just being a festival which caters only to our State and that’s when we decided to take the platform to a regiol level so that filmmakers from other States can also showcase their talents.” The Film Festival will be screening 67 films from across the North East in 4 days followed by Film Northeast 2016, Awards. The Shillong Chamber Choir will also be performing on the last day of the Film NorthEast festival.
