Financial Literacy Week Launched By Reserve Bank of India (RBI) In Guwahati City

GUWAHATI: The Financial Literacy Week 2019, was inaugurated in the Reserve Bank of India, Guwahati on Monday by Manoranjan Dash, Regional Director of RBI for North Eastern Region, in the presence of major bankers, CGM NABARD, State government officials and Krishi Vigyan Kendra officials.

The Financial Literacy Week is an initiative by Reserve Bank of India, to promote awareness on key topics every year through a focused campaign. This year, Financial Literacy Week is being observed from June 3 to 7 on the theme of “Farmers” and how they benefit by being a part of the formal banking system. The messages disseminated during the week will focus on responsible borrowing viz., benefits of repaying loans on time, improving credit score, etc. and simplified mode of availing Agricultural Finance such as Kisan Credit Cards.

Speaking on the inaugural function on Monday, Dash said the growth in agriculture is necessary for the overall economic growth and finance is an essential enabler for the same. He said the RBI is actively involved in formulating policies that enhance the flow of credit to the farming community.

He further added that financial literacy is a combination of financial awareness, knowledge, skills, attitude and behaviours necessary to make sound financial decisions and ultimately achieve individual financial wellbeing.

Dash exhorted the bankers to take concerted efforts to undertake awareness camps for farmers. In order to build awareness and disseminate financial literacy messages to the farming community, focused content in the form of posters and leaflets have been prepared by the RBI for dissemination. Banks have been advised to display the posters and content in their rural bank branches, Financial Literacy Centers, ATMs and websites.
