Fincial aid to sports persons and organizers

GUWAHATI, April 23: Directorate of the Sports and Youth Welfare today handed over fincial aid to Sports persons and sports organizers in a function which was held at the Bhogeswari Phukani Indoor stadium. Ace boxer Shiva Thapa and arher Sanjay Boro also received cash award in the same function.

Altogether 166 sportspersons received regular pension and another 20 sports persons collected one time grant of Rs 40,000 each. On the other hand Chief Minister's special assistance was handed over to Punilal Das of gaon. Altogether 45 associations also received grants in aid to support sports persons and organisations.

Meanwhile Assam Government today rewarded Shiva Thapa with Rs 10 lakh and talented archer Sanjay Boro Rs 40,000 in the same function. Shiva was rewarded for his gold medal winning performance in the Asian Championships in 2013. Sanjoy received Rs 40,000 for his further preparations for intertiol events. Speaking on this occasions Ajit Singh, the Sports Minister of Assam who was the chief guest in the function, said, "Assam has been doing well in different disciplines including archery, boxing and it is  a very good sign for us. We will try to promote sports in the coming days also."
