FIR lodged for fund misappropriation

JOYSAGAR, May 6: In the latest development after one month, the Swahid Peoli Phukan College governing body of Namti, Sivasagar has finally lodged an FIR against the former Principal of the college in connection with the allegation of UGC fund misappropriation. The FIR was lodged in the Namti PS on Saturday.

The University Grants Commission, New Delhi had allotted a sum of Rs. 93 lakh to the SPP College, Namti, Sivasagar under the College Infrastructure Development and also for establishing various distance education courses in the college during 2007 to 2016. During this period, Dr Samsud S Jaman was the Principal and also the secretary of the governing body of the college. But with the UGC fund, the college authority as well as the governing body did not do any needful construction of the college and also did not start any distance education courses. The entire amount was allegedly pocketed by some group and in fund misappropriation, the then Principal and also the secretary of the governing body, Dr. SS Jaman was allegedly directly involved.

The UGC stopped granting further financial aid in to the college. The governing body of the college and also the present teachers and employees’ union of the college, after many discussions, finally lodged the FIR against the former Principal and sought judicial probe into the scam. A case U/S 420/406/468/09/18 has been registered in the Namti Police Station following the FIR, sources informed.
