Fire and earthquake mock drill conducted

Tezpur, Feb 24: For making the people aware about  how to combat fire-related incidents

and earthquake, the District Disaster magement Authority (DDMA), Sonitpur, in collaboration with the civil defense, Sonitpur and supported by Assam State Disaster Magement Authority (ASDMA) conducted an awareness-cum-mock drill programme at Tezpur Government College of Teacher Education on Thursday.

The agency has been conducting a series of awareness programmes in various places, particularly in academic institutions, including schools and colleges in the district for creating an opinion towards how to combat the tural calamities and fire-related incidents that are most vulnerable in the region nowadays.

The five-member team from the District Disaster magement Authority (DDMA), Sonitpur, civil defence, Sonitpur and Assam State Disaster Magement Authority (ASDMA) delivered lecture on how to remain ready for probable situation caused due to fire-related incidents and earthquake and presented a very lively demonstration on the issue before the trainee teachers.

Urging the teachers to be sensitive enough regarding the issue, Ranjit Hazarika, Assistant Deputy Controller, Civil Defence, Sonitpur revealed that focus on imparting training on the line was given more among the teachers as they would be able to pass the message among  their students and then through the students the same would be prevailed among the people of the common civil society. “We are hopeful that through this process we will be able to make a mass section of the society aware about the issue,” he said.

Deepak Medhi, instructor from SDRF, gave a lively demonstration wherein  teachers too took part. He urged the people not to panic during such situation rather to get involved tactfully in the situation, thereby rescuing others.The team was also assisted by Deepak Bordoloi, DEOC, Rohan Mech and Niranjan Sah.
