Fire destroys several homes

SHILLONG, Feb 13: Several homes were destroyed and damaged after a fire broke out on Monday in Ri-Bhoi district. However, fortutely there was no report of any casualty. According to police, around ten houses were gutted after flames engulfed them in Umtyrnga village under Pilingkata police station. However, the exact cause of the fire could not be known till the filing of this report. Eyewitnesses said that the fire broke out at around 1 am on Monday morning and soon spread rapidly fuelled by LPG cylinder blasts. The dwellings which were razed to the ground by the fire were owned by Rini Kurbah, Romel Kharthangmaw and Dren Mawiong which were rented out. Authorities are investigating the cause of the fire.
