First Doyang Valley Award given away

Golaghat, Feb 1: Merapani Subdivision in Golaghat is a very important subdivision as it is located near the Assam - galand border. Merapani   Subdivision Jourlist Association, which was formed to serve the greater Doyang Valley area, has decided to introduce an award called Doyang Valley Award to recognize some persolities who have made immense contribution in the fields of art and culture, literature, sports and socio-economic sector.

The first Doyang Valley Award 2016 was given posthumously to Shilpipran Dharmeswar Bora for his contribution in the field of art and culture and education. A ceremony was held on Tuesday at the premises of the association office in Merapani. The president of Merapani Jourlist Association, gen Bora presided over the ceremony where officials of All Assam Jourlist Union, Golaghat District Jourlist Association , Golaghat Press Club and AAPCU were present along with the SDO and Border Magistrate of Merapani, Orpah Baglary, CRPF Commandant BL Mee and several others.

Former ULFA leader Arabinda Rajkhowa attended the ceremony as a distinguished guest. In the award ceremony, Shilpipran Dharmeswar Bora’s contributions to the greater Doyang region were commemorated and the Doyang Valley Award 2016 was conferred to him posthumously.

The award was received by the family members of Shilpipran Dharmeswar Bora. The award consists of a certificate, a memento and a cheque of Rs 5,000. After the award ceremony, a cultural programme was held.
