Tezpur, May 13: Girijananda Chowdhury Institute of Management and Technology (GIMT), Tezpur organized the first volunteers’ meet of Daan Utsav Assam chapter here at GIMT, Dekargaon, Tezpur premises on Saturday. Daan Utsav is India’s ‘Festival of Giving’ that brings people from various sectors together to celebrate and spread the joy of sharing. Every year, the first week of October (October 2 to October 8) is celebrated as Daan Utsav in many parts of India. The festival has empowered millions of Indians to give back to society in a way they choose- time, material, money or love.

This is the first volunteers’ meet to be organized in entire Northeast region. Sujit Ghosh, the national head (resource mobilization) of Child Help Foundation, a Mumbai-based NGO, was the speaker for the day. He has been a national volunteer for Daan Utsav since the last three years. Around 100 participants from different sectors like schools, Darrang College, Tezpur Law College, NGO, Zila Sainik Welfare Board, Edupur Society, Tezpur Zubeen Fan Club, retired persons and others gathered for the meet.

Participants were taught how to celebrate Daan Utsav. Also, they were highly motivated to spread this celebration in every corner of Assam as well as in the entire Northeast. This was the first initiative taken by GIMT Tezpur in association with Child Help Foundation.
