Fishermen caught

MORIGAON, May 1: People of Mora Sunai, Nagabandha GP, under Laharighat constituency, Morigaon have alleged that the lessee Indramuhan Biswas, secretary of Satgaon -Jalgutha Fishing Co-operative Ltd, has been allegedly catching egg-laden fishes at Mora Sunai fishery farm by flouting rules of the Fishery Act, 1953(Ammendment-2005). According to the act, the use of mosquito nets for catching fishes from the fishery in specified periods during a year is prohibited. During the season, catching of egg-laden fishes is prohibited by Fishery Department.

 On Monday, the lessee and other fishermen were caught fishing in the fishery by using machines. They were caught by the Fishery Officer and Barchala Police which recovered machines and nets from their possession. The locals have demanded the district administration to cancel the permit of the lessee immediately.
