Fishing banned in Dibrugarh

DIBRUGARH, April 3: Fishing in river, beels, ponds and other water sources and purchasing and selling of local fishes in the district have been completely banned for three and half months from April   to July 15 as per Fishery Act (amended), 1953. The fishery Act was amended in 2005 in Dibrugarh district. The District Fishery Development Officer (DFDO), by an order cautioned the people, fisherman, fish mahaldar and traders of local fish to abstain from fishing during the period as this period is breeding season of fishes.

The DFDO in order said that failing to concede with the directives of the act, the violators would be punished under 23, 23 (A), and 41 section of Fishery Act, 1953. Moreover, the ban on use of 1.5 cm. net (pahi jal) for fishing under the fishery Act would be continued during the ban period, an official press communiqué said.
