Five Arrested in Molestation Case of A Class X Student in Sivasagar, Assam

JOYSAGAR: In the latest development in the molestation case of a Class X student which took place in a remote high school of Sivasagar district two months ago, Sivasagar Police arrested as many as five accused on Sunday. As per information, based on the FIR lodged by the victim’s mother, the Sivasagar Police called the five accused to the Sivasagar Sadar PS on Sunday where top officers interrogated the accused and later arrested them. The incident took place two months ago and at that time local people had protested against the incident and demanded arrest of the culprits. But allegedly owing to some political pressure, police had to stop their investigation. However, due to the relentless efforts of some social groups and a sudden development in the case, police finally arrested the accused.

Sources revealed that the victim was threatened many times by the accused not to reveal anything. One of the Science teachers of the same school was also involved. On August 2, the victim, under severe pressure from the accused, reportedly consumed poison when she was alone at home. She was admitted in Joysagar Civil Hospital in a serious condition but doctors were able to save her.

Following the alleged suicide attempt, sensation prevailed in the town and Sivasagar Police this time did not let any section interfere in the case and nabbed all the accused. The arrested accused, including a woman, have been identified as Deva Mohan (Science teacher), Pranab Saikia (local), Jadav Das (AASU member), Gahin Das (AASU member) and Renu Das. All the arrested persons were produced before the CJM Court, Sivasagar on Monday and the court sent all the culprits to judicial custody, sources informed.
