Five bank robbers in police net

JORHAT, Sept 15: Five dacoits involved in the ICICI Bank robbery case in the heart of Jorhat city at Barua Charali under Jorhat Police Station, were arrested from a lodge near Simaluguree and were produced before the Chief Judicial Magistrate court and taken into five days police custody.
With their arrest, fruitful results on the inter-State bank robbery gang which has been operating in Upper Assam, galand and Aruchal Pradesh, are likely to come up in a day or two, said Tuniram Neog, the investigating officer of Jorhat Sadar Police station on Thursday.
He said following specific information, a police team picked up five dreaded inter-State bank robbers mely Pratap Singh (53), Avoy Yadav (32) and Tushar Singh (36) from West Bengal, Manoj Yadav from Bihar and Arja Yadav.
Police said that on July 18 when a cash transporting company transported an amount of Rs 18.57 lakh from KB Road LIC division in Jorhat city to the ICICI Bank branch at Barua Charali, the cash was kept at the cash counter for counting. This group of dacoits who were loitering in the bank, maged to stch the money and escape. Immediately an employee of the cash transportation company and an employee of the ICICI Bank branch were picked up by the police. The police maged to arrest the dacoits on Tuesday and more are expected to be bbed soon, said police sources.
A case (1485/17) was registered at Jorhat Police Station following the robbery. The police are also investigating another robbery case where Rs 6 lakh was looted from De Bank about 42 days ago.
