Five-day long festival to highlight Brahmaputra's beauty, potential

Dibrugarh, Feb 9:  The five-day long Nomami Brahmaputra Festival, along with the other districts of the State, will be celebrated here from March 31.  The State Government is proposing to hold the five-day long festival in the entire State with a view to highlight the beauty and potentialities of the River Brahmaputra in the tiol pitch.

A preparatory meeting was held at the Deputy Commissioner’s conference room with DC Loya Madduri in the chair recently. Distinguished citizens, representatives of various organizations, and senior officials of various government departments and people from every walk of life who attended the meeting, took keen interest on the proposed festival and offered their valuable suggestions and plans to make it a grand success. After a threadbare interactive discussion, the meeting resolved to celebrate the festival with traditiol  dresses competitions,  colorful cultural procession depicting the dress and culture of various ethnic groups, drawing competition among school children, semir , photo exhibition, marathon  and other programmes.

The Deputy Commissioner, Loya Madduri emphasized elaborate arrangements and more sports, cultural and adventure sports activities, which she felt, would help in enhancing the prospect of tourism in the district as well in the region. She also stressed participation of local populace in the festival.

The meeting, which was attended by ADC  Ankur Bharali, Chief Executive Officer of Dibrugarh Zila Parishad, Diganta Saikia, ADC, Aim Charan Kumar Singh, Pabitra Das, senior government officials and representatives of organizations, supported  the DC’s suggestions and urged upon all to extend their full cooperation and help in making the festival as a means to promote tourism prospects of  the district in tiol and intertiol ares.
