Five Drunk and Partying Youths Arrested on Charges of Attemt-to-Rape a 21 year old IT Professional in Gurugram

New Delhi: In yet another case of sexual assault, five men were arrested while two managed to escape on charges of attempting to rape a 21-year-old information technology (IT) professional in a plush apartment in Sector 86 of Gurugram.

According to the complaint registered by the victim before police, she said that on that fateful day she decided to take the stairs instead of the elevators to her second-floor apartment whe one of the accused men on the first floor grabbed her by her hand.

As per the police, Gurugram is becoming highly unsafe with a dangerous cocktail of young men with lots of money and often involved in gangs, guns, and alcohol.

When the miscreants were trying to grope her, she raised an alarm and alerted everyone in the apartment and the residents gathered amid this chaotic situation.

The people living in the apartment alleged that both the residents of a first-floor apartment were habitual offenders and raise allegations about the dillydally attitude of the police and that they were trying to cover up the matter. They also informed that the SHO registered the complaints only after the matter reached the superior officials.

Reportedly, the accused were identified as Ankit alias Kali, his brother Sawan, Abhishek, Mukesh alias Monty and Sachin. Hemant, a native of Badha village near Sector 86 and Kamal alias Nandi are at large. According to the police, Hemant was given police protection after a suspected gangster opened fire on him last year. It isn’t clear whether Hemant is associated with some gang.

Police informed that it was around 9:45 when the incident occurred as the victim was returning from office. When she was climbing the staircase of her apartment, the miscreants tried to grab her hand who were already at the apartment and seem drunk and were partying.

Kherki Daula station house officer Kuldeep Kumar said the brothers had invited the five others for a party and were drunk.

“The victim opted to take the stairs to her apartment and was assaulted by the accused in the staircase near the first floor. She managed to run and informed her parents,” said Kumar.

Meanwhile, the Gurugram Police registered a case against the seven accused under IPC sections 354-A (sexual harassment), 376 (rape), 506 (criminal intimidation), 509 (word, gesture or act intended to insult the modesty of a woman) and 511 (punishment for attempting to commit offences punishable with imprisonment of life or other imprisonment) at Kherki Daula police station, informed the police.

The five arrested miscreants were produced in the district court by the Gurugram police and later were remanded to judicial custody.

However, the victim could not register her statement before a duty magistrate because she is still “traumatized” after the incident and needs some more time to recover.
