Five policemen killed in Afghan terror attack

Kabul, May 24: Five police personnel were killed after Taliban militants attacked security checkpoints in Afghanistan’s Helmand province, a media report said on Sunday. “Militants attacked police checkpoints in Sangin district on Saturday night. Security forces responded to the attack. The clash left five policemen and several militants killed,” Xinhua reported, citing a security official. Eight police personnel were also injured during the attack. The injured were shifted to a hospital in Lashkar Gah, Helmand province’s capital. A senior police official was among those killed, the official added. Details of casualties on the militants’ side remain unclear.  (IANS)
