Five Rohingyas Apprehended by RPF at Guwahati Railway Station

Guwahati: Today at around 9.00 am Railway Protection Force (RPF) Guwahati unit had apprehended five suspected Rohingyas at Guwahati Railway Station.

As per GRP report, these Rohingyas (Myanmar Nationals) were apprehended by RPF personnel of Guwahati railway station from platform no. 1 while they are preparing to move to New Delhi. They are coming from Manipur along with some smuggled items. Several packets of Cigarettes, Coffee packets, etc were recovered from their possession.

Meanwhile, they are handed over to Guwahati GRPS for follow up actions & a case under Foreigners Act is being registered & investigated.

Also, speaking to The Sentinel Digital, one of the Government Railway Police (GRP) officials said, “We are conducting a thorough investigation, in this case, moreover, we have also recovered some documents like Aadhar cards from their possession, hence, it will be too early to comment on their nationality, but yes we are suspecting them to be Rohingyas.”

The GRP official also mentioned that based on their confession, the apprehended Rohingyas claimed that were granted bail and have served jail for at least 9 months at Manipur earlier.

A detailed study on the matter is being carried out by Government Railway Police (GRP).
