SHILLONG, Oct 19: A delegation of the FKJGP Mawsynram Circle under the leadership of Banshai Marbaing on met Education minister (in-charge) RC Laloo and urged him to immediately appoint teachers at Mawsynram LP Secondary School.

“Even after it’s up gradation in 2014 the government has so far not been uble to appoint teachers at this school for the past two years and we want the Minister in-charge Education R. C Laloo should take this matter seriously,” Banshai Marbaing said after meeting the minister.

Expressing concern he said that they are saddened by the attitude of the state government since they feel education is one of the most important things especially in this current generation.

“The students studying in 10th standard are facing a lot of problems especially considering their board exams is approaching since they are not getting proper education and guidance due to the non availability of teachers in the school,” he said. He said that another thing which concerns them is that the students studying in the school will have to appear their board exams as private candidates.

“We also demand that the state government should immediately appoint teachers in this school as per the requirements and that the government should regularize the school under Meghalaya Board of School Education (MBOSE) as per the recognition of Secondary and Higher Secondary School rule 2012 through the Meghalaya School Education Act 1981,” he said.

According to him, the school is one of the oldest in the region which was established during pre independence.

“Its current state is saddening since there are no proper toilets for student and the teachers quarters are in appalling condition,” he said adding that they want the government to construct proper toilets and repairing work on the teacher’s quarters should start immediately so that the teachers would be able to give quality education towards the students.

The FKJGP leader said that if the State government does not listen to comply with their demands then they will not just sit idle instead they will keep on fighting until their demands are met.
