FKJGP dismisses claims of rift

SHILLONG, Dec 21: The Federation Khasi Jaintia and Garo People (FKJGP), North Khasi Hill district on Wednesday refuted claims that there is a rift within the organization despite the fact that some of its members have quit the Federation.

It may be mentioned that FKJGP members in a meeting held on December 20, participated by circle leaders and members from Nongpoh, Umsning, Raid Madan Kyrdem, Umbir, Upper Khri, Mawrong, Syngku and Kyrdem Kulai and Mawrong and Syngku units decided to quit the organisation.

Addressing reporters in the city today, FKJGP president, North Khasi Hill district, BL Dhar said, “We cannot hold back anyone from staying or leaving the organization however only a few members had deserted, reason best known to them but as was flashed in the newspapers that most of the members are from the Circle is false because in some of these areas we have only units.”

He added, “It’s only a few members who have quit the organization and to say that the Nongpoh Circle of the federation is dissolved due to the desertion of the former president is baseless as the current president of the circle is present in our midsts.”

L Lyngdoh, FKJGP general secretary, North Khasi Hill district while admitting that in some areas the organization is non functiol as many members have left the Federation, he said, “We had earlier visited some of these areas and we have found that a few units are non-functioning hence we have decided to strengthening our presence by enrolling more members.”

Expressing similar views, L D Lyngdoh information secretary, FKJGP, central body said, “I feel that these people who have deserted us do not understand the functioning of the organization or maybe there is a communication gap.”
