FKJGP inspects FCI premises in Shillong

SHILLONG, May 4: Members of FKJGP Mawlai Circle led by their president Marbud Dkhar inspected the Food Corporation India (FCI), Shillong premises at Mawlai Mawroh. Following the inspection members of the FKJGP found that many truck drivers and handymen are relieving themselves in the nearby woods thus defiling the area which poses a huge health hazard for the people residing in the area.

After the inspection the Federation on Monday met Deputy Commissioner P.S Dkhar requesting him to immediately set up a Public Latrine and a Dustbin outside the FCI premises.

Speaking with newsmen FKJGP president Mawlai Circle Dkhar, said, “We have notice huge amount of garbage, plastic waste, bottles and thrash lying all around the area and this will gravely pollute the area and also poses health hazard to the local residents.” He said with increasing truck traffic outside standing in long queues the public is facing huge distress and inconvenience.

“Many of these truck drivers and handymen are relieving themselves in the nearby woods and some of them would also cook in the area leaving behind a trail of garbage,” he said adding that this has caused a lot of problems for the residents who are commuting from the area.

He informed that the DC has however assured them that officers will soon be sent to inspect the area and find a suitable place to set up the public latrine and dustbin.

The Federation has demanded the administration to take immediate action as to curb the growing mece accordingly.

The FKJGP leaders further informed that many BPL families in Mawlai have also expressed their grievances to them on the uvailability of ration for the past 2 months.

“We have requested the DC to release the ration since it has caused a lot of problems for the people especially those coming from BPL families who are dependent on the ration,” he said adding that the DC has also assured them that by his month the ration will be released.
