GUWAHATI, May 7: Guwahati Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA) opened a flood control room for flood free Guwahati in a programme held at GMDA conference hall here on Wednesday.
Additiol Chief Secretary to the Chief Minister MGVK Bhanu briefed the gathering about various steps taken for ensuring a flood free Guwahati this year like cleaning and desiltation of all feeder drains by Gauhati Municipality Corporation (GMC), eviction of encroachment, excavation and cleaning of draige channels and water bodies by GMDA and Water Resources Department, installation of new powerful pumps to flush out storm-water, altertive draige channels to divert storm-water away from the city etc.
The Control Room shall be operatiol for 24 X 7 and shall receive calls, sms, and WhatsApp messages regarding flood related problems by common people in four given numbers—73990-03001, 73990-03002, 73990-03003 and 73990-03004. The meeting was also attended by Mayor of Guwahati Abir Patra, Chairman of GMDA Dhiren Baruah, Chief Executive Officer of GMDA Anurag Singh, Additiol Commissioner of GMC rayan Konwar and officers of GMDA, GMC and Water Resources department.
