Flood in Chirang district, 32 villages affected

Bongaigaon, August 18:  Several areas in Chirang district have been affected by floods since Monday night. Heavy rain in Chirang and neighbouring hill areas of Bhutan since Monday has resulted in the flood.

According to Chirang district administration sources, 32 villages had been affected by this flood. They are Silpota, Dababil, Deborbil, Nepalpara, Khoirabari, Motherpur, zthurbari, Sisubari Bhurbhuti, Besorbari, Daukhagar 1& 2, Sanyasibari, Choto Amguri, Khujrabguri, Chourabari, Thuribari, Kochutola, Bhutkhura, Sisudangi, Mojabari, Goppapara, Juilaga, Gendabil, Basugaon town Part 1, 2 and 3.

Talking to media persons, Gagan rzary, Chirang District Information and Public Relation Officer said that so far 1,941 people had been affected by the flood. “No relief camp has been opened yet and there is no causality so far. Flood affected area in Sidli Circle is 618 hectares and agricultural land affected by to flood is 16.31 hectares. A road connecting Santipur- Gwjwnpuri has been breached and a building of Sisubari L P School has been affected. People have been evacuated.  In Bijni subdivision also the situation is pretty much the same. Chirang district administration is working for rapid rescue of the affected people and if needed, relief camp will be opened,” he said.
