Flood situation further improves in Hailakandi district

Hailakandi, June 25: The flood situation in Hailakandi district has improved further with all the three major rivers flowing much below the danger level. The number of villages still reeling under flood waters is 40 and those are under the worst-hit Algapur revenue circle. Flood water has receded in other parts of the district. The number of affected people has drastically gone down from 3.24 lakh to 18,111 and most of them - 16,411 -are in relief camps and centres under Algapur revenue circle.

Meanwhile, the district administration has already started the house damage survey, partially and fully, due to the deluge. Deputy Commissioner Adil Khan has asked the officials and heads of departments concerned to gird up loins to provide rehabilitation to the affected people and restoration of damaged infrastructure.

Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal during his visit to flood-hit Hailakandi on Saturday appreciated the good work done by the administration in providing relief to the flood-hit people and adroit flood management during the deluge. The Chief Minister directed the Deputy Commissioner to submit a comprehensive report on the extent of damage after the flood water receded. Sonowal assured that his government would extend all possible help and support to the administration to cope up with the situation.
