Flood situation grim in Bajali

 From a Correspondent

PATHSALA, Aug 14: In the second wave of floods affecting the State, Bajali is again under threat following heavy rains. Several parts of Bajali subdivision of Barpeta district have been affected by the wave of floods, rendering at least 5,000 families homeless. The rising water of both Pohumara and Kaldia have inundated roads in various parts of Bajali subdivision causing severe hardship to the people.
The Kaldia river is flowing over the embankment that was damaged in the last flood in Jalikata and Bongaon areas. The Patacharkuchi-Bhaluki road and Patacharkuchi-Anchali road have also been submerged by flood waters. The flood water has eroded a portion of the road disrupting communication. In Gohinpara, the road has been totally submerged by the rising water of Pohumara River and communication has been disrupted.
The rain has led to water logging in various places of Pathsala town. It is barely possible to walk and drive on these roads due to heavy rainfall for the last several days. The circle officer of Bajali subdivision, Joydev Mahanta visited the areas and took stock of the flood situation.
Meanwhile, the standing crops have been destroyed by floods. Today in some places of Bajali, flood relief materials were distributed by the Bajali administration with the help of Yuva Morcha, district BJP general secretary and coordited by Phani Pathak, Bajali BJP president.
