DHUBRI, Aug 17: Flood situation in Dhubri district still remains grim and critical as the Brahmaputra is flowing above the danger level, inundating 539 villages and affecting over 7.69 lakh people in the district. Beside village areas, nearly 30,000 residents of Dhubri town itself are reeling under flood and this wave of flood has also inundated most of the areas under Dhubri Municipal Board, forcing residents to take shelter in the relief camps opened in the schools.
Public Health Engineering and Food and Civil Supplies minister, Rihon Daimari has been camping in the district since Tuesday and reviewing the flood relief operation in the district from Dhubri Circuit house.
Several organizations, including Dhubri Lions Club, district unit of BJP, Kalibari Trustee Board and Samsan Mondir Maging Committee, also have come out with relief materials and distributed them among the flood-hit people of the district. This second wave of flood has left a trail of devastation all around the district as all the standing crops, major embankments, roads and officials building and homestead properties are either totally perished in flood or partially damaged, an official informed.
