Floods Ravage Paglam, Schools Closed for a Week

ROING: A decision has been taken to close down the schools at Paglam for a week, until the flood situation normalizes. It was also decided to dispatch additional stock of rice, packaged drinking water, life jackets and inflatable rafts for use in the Paglam area.

The decisions were taken in a meeting attended by Deputy Commissioner Mitali Namchoom in the presence of SP SK Sain, ADC Tapik Pertin, ADC Dambuk Rujjum Rakshap, Heads of the Departments (HoDs) and Administration Officers held an emergency meeting to review the flood situation at Paglam and situation arising due to incessant rains in the district. The DMO said that two medical officers are stationed at Paglam with sufficient stock of medicines to treat the public. The Deputy Commissioner and the team also visited the Bomjir area and Dibang Bridge to assess the damage caused by the swollen river.

DC Namchoom advised all to put in place the District Disaster Management Plan and instructed the departments to activate the static units formed in the district. She also instructed all the officers and officials to remain in station till the situation normalizes.

The DC also advised the Health department to sensitize the public on the importance of boiling water before consumption and other preventive measures to check spread of illnesses and disease. The Food and Civil Supplies Department was instructed to maintain sufficient stock of essential commodities and the Police department was instructed to post men at the Dibang bridge point and other areas to warn and assist the public in case of any eventuality
