Flower show in Hailakandi draws huge response

Hailakandi, Feb 1: The two-day flower show held in front of the DC’s bungalow in Hailakandi town drew to a close on Wednesday.

Organized by Hailakandi district administration, Department of Agriculture, KVK, E media Association, Press Club, Hailakandi and sponsored by NRLM, the two-day flower show held for the first time, evoked tremendous response with tens of thousands of people, school and college students and ture lovers thronging the venue to witness eye-catching floral beauties in their resplendent best, stated a press release. The event commenced on Tuesday with Deputy Commissioner Moloy Bora throwing the flower exhibition open to the public.

The aim behind organizing the flower show was to bring people together to enjoy ture and know more about flowers and plants. The flower show featured nearly 10,000 flowers belonging to different varieties of roses, atheeum, petunia, dahlia, gerbera, salvia and varieties of marigolds.

In the valedictory session all the dignitaries spoke in one voice that flowers were the harbingers of fruits and seeds that sustain and keep us healthy, soothe our hearts and minds and are for all occasions.

Prizes and certificates were given away to the winners and participants of spot drawing competition and flower arrangements under three categories. Special prizes were also given to nurseries, tea estates and to the gardeners by the dignitaries on the occasion.

Deputy Commissioner Moloy Bora, Superintendent of Police Prab Jyoti Goswami, ADC, FR Laskar, Senior Agricultural Officer, AR Ahmed, senior scientist, KVK, Dr. SK Md. Azizur Rahman, president, Press Club, Hailakandi, Amit Ranjan Das, among others, were present on the occasion.

A two-day workshop on floriculture which concluded today also drew a good response from SHGs and cultivators.
