Following Gelua incident, situation now under control

DHEMAJI, April 16: A quarrel between youths of different communities took place on Saturday where one of them was injured. The situation is now under control.

The incident took place in Gelua village, 20 km away from Dhemaji, when a youth med Deba Kumar Pegu was hurt by some youths of Gelua village. Pegu went to Gelua to get his TV recharge and while he was coming back home, two youths of Gelua stopped him on the way and an altercation took place between them. In the meantime, another youth attacked him from behind and Pegu got hurt. Hearing the news, a group of people of Dighali forcefully entered Gelua village and torched two cattle sheds. In the meantime, Dhemaji Police went to the spot and controlled the situation.

Seven youths of Gelua have been arrested though a list of 30 people had been given to the Superintendent of Police of Dhemaji. The Dhemaji Police in the meantime cordoned off the area and brought the situation under control. No untoward incident has been reported so far. Dhemaji Police kept strict vigilance over the situation.
