Churachandpur (Manipur), May 26: The launch of tiol Food Security Act 2013, in the state of Manipur has really proved to be a blessing for the people of this insurgent-hit state.

On May 1, Manipur Chief Minister Okram Ibobi Singh along with Deputy Chief Minister Gaikhangam and Consumer Affair Food and Public Distribution Minister L Biren jointly flagged off the vehicles - carrying rice to be distributed to Fair Price Shops (FPS) thereby declaring that the NFSA has been implemented.

The state which often makes to the headlines for wrong reason has this time been publicized for some good cause, which will definitely help the state in coming out of the clutches of poverty.

As per the official sources the announcement was made at a function organised by the Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution department at Sangaiprou Godown

The Act would lay stress on those possessing Antyodaya An Yoja (AAY) card and aims at providing food grains at a subsidized rate.

Under this provision, a consumer will get five kg of rice in a month at the rate of Rs 3 per kg and flour at Rs 2 per kg.

The Antyodya An Yoja (AAY) card holders can avail 35 kg of rice per month. The scheme will cover 87 per cent of the population.

Singh also said that continuous efforts are being made on to cover the whole population within June this year under the Act.

The Manipur government has given top priority to the tiol Food Security Act (NFSA), 2013, and promised to work for the timely distribution of food grain as for maximum time of the year the state remains to be disturbed rigorously by insurgency and as a result of which the poorer section of the society have to pass their days under starvation.

Singh also appealed the people that the implementation of the scheme will be successful only when the general public will extend their full cooperation to the State government in the implementation process. The scheme is meant for the common people and hence without the cooperation of the common people the purpose of the scheme would remain incomplete.
