For development of Indian culture, regiol languages need to be developed: Dhrubajyoti Bora

SIVASAGAR, June 18: There is an urgent need to reform the present education system so that Assamese language can be saved from extinction, said Axam Xahitya Xabha (AXX) president Dr. Dhurbajyoti Bora, while delivering the third Professor Sarat Mahanta Memorial Lecture in the auditorium of the Yuva Dol on Saturday. The memorial lecture was organized by Sibsagar Press Club.

Speaking on theme ‘Security of Assamese language-literature and culture: Present and Future’, Dr. Bora criticized the policies taken for the education system of Assamese and other regiol languages in the country by the Central Government.

“The regiol languages constitute a valuable resource for the development of culture. If language faces challenges, there is indispensable threat for the culture. For the total development of Indian culture, the regiol languages of our country need to be secured and developed,” said Dr. Bora.

He also expressed dissatisfaction over the growing commercialization and privatization of education. “The trend of commercialization and privatization of school education is identified as a major concern for Assamese medium schools. As a result, Assamese language is facing a threat in the race of survival,” he said.   

Dr. Bora also revealed that he would write a letter to the Central Government to introduce a series of schools in the me of vodaya Bharati Vidyalaya with reformation in the education system.

Earlier, Sivasagar Zila Xahitya Xabha president Soram Baruah lit the ceremonial lamp, while children of Vidyabhavan performed the song Chiro Xenehi Mur Bhaxa Jononi. In the programme, which was anchored by Sibsagar Press Club secretary Imul Hazarika, Sivasagar Superintendent of Police, And Prakash Tiwari and Sibsagar Press Club president Dr. Saumarjyoti Mahanta also delivered speech.
