Foreigners Tribul member ‘assaulted’ in Goalpara

Goalpara, February 15: In a sensatiol development on Wednesday, the member No.4 of Foreigners Tribul was allegedly physically assaulted by advocates of Goalpara court.  According to the information, the tribul member Ajay Kr. Phukan in a verdict on February 9, declared 8 people out of 13 as foreigners. The case was under Boguan PS of West Goalpara.     However, on Wednesday, several advocates including Shahjahan Ali, zrul Islam and Omar Faruk met Ajay Kr. Phukan at his office at Kachari Ghat, Goalpara town. The advocates reportedly demanded cause for declaring 8 people as foreigners despite having all valid documents like land records of 1931, NRC of 1951and intertiol passports. In an exchange of words, advocate zrul Islam allegedly physically assaulted the tribul member.      The police were immediately informed and a team under ASP A.Basumatary arrived at the scene. However, by the time all the advocates left the tribul. A case was registered in this regard at the Goalpara police station and police is trying to find the absconding advocates. On the other hand, in a telephonic interview, advocate zrul Islam claimed that during the conversation with the tribul member, the member termed them as brokers of Bangladeshis and turned them out from his office by grabbing them by the collar.
