Forest department's 'negligence' blamed for wild tusker's death

From a Correspondent
BISWATH CHARIALI, April 22: Several social organizations and local people have strongly criticized the alleged negligence of the State forest department which led to the death of a wild tusker near Behali reserve forest in Biswath district.  According to information, a wild elephant which had borne gun shots on its head, died at Kulaguri Pathar on Friday after wandering here and there for the last of couple days. The forest department did not allegedly take any action to provide medical assistance to the severely injured elephant that had reportedly received gun shots from suspected poachers in the reserve forest.  Two wild elephants were found inside Behali Reserve Forest a few days back. Rajgarh Parivesh Unyan Samiti, Uddipta Chora, Behali KMSS and Behali Tai Ahom Yuva Parishad have demanded a high-level enquiry into the incident and stern action against the persons responsible for the death of the wild elephant.
