Forest Guard Dies in Colleague’s Effort to Scare Away Wild Jumbos

In an accidental incident that took place in Teok’s Jajimukh, Jorhat on Wednesday, a forest guard, named Hemant Tamuli had to die as a result of an effort to scare away wild elephants. It all happened then when the forest guards were firing rounds of bullets in order to scare away a herd of wild jumbos. But unfortunately and the ill-luck of the forest guard Tamuli, a bullet fired by one of his colleagues hit Tamuli and the forest guard died on-the-spot.

Speculating the reason behind the Tamuli’s death, it has also been stated that this accident might get to happen due to the outdated weapon that the forest guards are made to use. The rifles used by the guards get jammed simply on being blank fired for a few rounds and this was one key reason behind Tamuli being hit by the bullet.

However, this is not the sole case where such ill-fated incidents have happened a similar incident has occurred in West Bengal earlier this year. In this incident, a casual employee with the Bengal forest department was accidentally shot dead by a security guard and this happened then when they were trying to escape a wild elephant at the Jaldapara National Park in Alipurduar district.
